The big-screen adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey was one of the biggest projects in Hollywood from the moment it was announced, and fans could not stop wondering who would portray their favorite characters.

Of course, Dakota Johnson was cast as Anastasia Steele alongside Jamie Dornan‘s Christian Grey. The movie took her star power to the next level. However, she faced stiff competition to land the role.

The risque plot, which flirted with BDSM and featured multiple intimate scenes, made the franchise a risk for Hollywood, but it was one that paid off. Years later, the movies remain some of the highest-grossing projects with R-ratings.

Casting such a big project generated a lot of buzz at the time. Though we have a hard time imagining anyone but Dakota playing Anastasia, she wasn’t the only actress in the running.

We were curious and did some digging. Our search revealed 10 actress who were considered for the role. One became a famous Marvel star. Another explained that they turned down the offer out of fear of being pigeonholed, and quite a few of them discussed the audition process as an uncomfortable one.

A rep for Dakota Johnson responded to reports that she and Chris Martin had split up.

The 34-year-old Madame Web actress and 47-year-old Coldplay frontman have been linked for seven years but largely keep their romance out of the headlines.

We learned that they were engaged in March 2024. However, this week reports suggested that they had called off their engagement after the Daily Mail shared photos of the actress without her engagement ring.

Dakota Johnson is hitting the trails.

The 34-year-old Madame Web actress got in some exercise while taking her dog for a hike on Sunday afternoon (August 11) in Malibu, Calif.

For her hike, Dakota showed off her midriff in a black sportsbra and high-waisted biker shorts paired with a black New York Mets baseball hat and sunglasses.

A few weeks ago, Dakota was in London for the Stevie Nicks concert, which she attended with a bunch of her famous friends.

In a new interview, Dakota‘s Fifty Shades co-star Jamie Dornan shared some rare comments about her and revealed what they recently texted about.

Back in May, Dakota was spotted filming a steamy makeout scene with Pedro Pascal as they filmed their upcoming movie Materialists in New York City. Check out the set pics here.

Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal enjoy each others company on Friday (July 12) at the Stevie Nicks concert in London, England!

The 34-year-old actress and 49-year-old actor are co-stars in the upcoming film Materialists. Dakota and Pedro were joined by actress and model Cara Delevingne with girlfriend Minke and Furiosa star Anya Taylor-Joy. Stella McCartney was also there!

In the photos, Pedro had his arm around Dakota and was seen making her laugh. They could also be seen chatting and laughing with Cara! At one point, Cara seemed to jokingly push Pedro away by putting her hand on his face.

Materialists is a romantic comedy written and directed by Oscar nominee Celine Song. It’s about “a high-end matchmaker who gets involved with a wealthy man,” according to Variety. The film also stars Chris Evans and we have photos of them on set!

The 34-year-old Madame Web actress flashed a smirk as she headed to a salon for some pampering on Saturday afternoon (July 13) in London, England.

For her outing, Dakota wore a silky green jacket with jeans and Mary Jane shoes.
