Chicken Breast Recipes
Many people don’t like chicken breasts because they are dry and hard to swallow. However, this chicken breast recipe provides juicy and tender breasts smothered in a very garlicky and flavorful sauce.
I flour them lightly and pan fry until crispy. The coating seals the moisture and yields super tender and succulent breasts.
Then, they are added to an incredibly garlicky sauce. I use both garlic cloves and garlic powder because garlic cloves alone don’t provide strong garlic flavor. However, I use garlic powder only for seasoning chicken breasts. This guarantees that the garlic flavor won’t be overpowering. Don't add it to the sauce!
how to cook chicken breast
- First, you need to slice chicken breasts in half lengthwise to make 4 fillets, using a sharp knife. I recommend slicing instead of pounding breasts or leaving them whole. This guarantees fast and even cooking. It is seriously a 30 minute meal when you slice them.
- Dredge each fillet in flour-cheese mixture. The flour coating keeps the moisture inside the chicken and helps the sauce to thicken later. For gluten free or low carb creamy garlic chicken, substitute all-purpose flour for almond flour. Fry chicken until cooked through and golden. Transfer to a plate. You may need to fry chicken breasts in batches if your pan is small enough to accommodate all the fillets.
Creamy Garlic sauce
It is a one pan meal. Make the sauce in the same pan with all the brown bits left from chicken.
- Once the chicken is cooked through, transfer to a plate.
- In the same pan sauté onion until tender, then add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the chicken stock and cream. Allow to simmer for a few minutes. Finally, add the cheese and cook until it melts through. Season with salt and pepper and garnish with fresh parsley.
The beauty of this creamy garlic sauce is that the garlic is NOT overpowering! To achieve this, make sure to caramelize it, cook for 3-5 minutes (depends on the size of the garlic cloves). For a milder flavor, don’t smash garlic cloves, add them whole. You can increase or decrease the amount of garlic and customize the recipe to your liking. Alternatively, you can even chop or mince them.
What goes with creamy garlic chicken breasts
Personally I love this chicken breast recipe with my buttery mashed potatoes or mashed cauliflower. You can also serve it with any pasta, steamed veggies or rice.

Description
Creamy Garlic Chicken Breasts are an easy and ultimate chicken dinner. Tender chicken breasts in a hearty garlic sauce loaded with garlic and cheese.
Ingredients
For The Chicken:
- Chicken breasts ( skinless and halved horizontally to make 4-5)- 2-3
- Salt - 2 teaspoons
- Ground black pepper- 1 teaspoon
- Garlic powder- 2 teaspoons
- All-purpose flour- 4 tablespoons
- Fresh grated Pecorino Romano cheese- 4 tablespoons
- Vegetable oil- 3 tablespoons
- Unsalted butter- 2 tablespoons
For The Sauce:
- Onion (finely chopped)-1
- Garlic cloves- 13-14
- Chicken stock or broth- 1 ¼ cup
- Half & half or heavy cream- 1 ¼ cup
- Fresh grated Pecorino Romano cheese-½ cup
- Fresh parsley ( finally chopped)- 2 tablespoons or as needed
Instructions
- Place chicken fillets on the cutting board, pat dry and season with ground black pepper, salt and garlic powder on both sides.
- Combine the flour and Pecorino Romano cheese in a shallow bowl. Dredge the chicken in the flour-cheese mixture and shake off excess.
- In a large non stick pan/ skillet heat vegetable oil and butter over medium high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the chicken and fry until golden and cooked through, about 10 minutes ( 5 minutes per side). You might need to fry chicken in batches. Transfer the cooked chicken to a plate. Keep aside.
- In the same pan/ skillet saute onion until translucent and soft over medium heat.
- Using a heavy knife, smash about 7-8 garlic cloves. Simply place the blade on the clove and press the blade down on the clove. Add the smashed garlic together with whole garlic cloves to the pan and saute until fragrant, about 3 minutes.
- Add the chicken stock , scraping any brown bits. Allow to simmer for 2-3 minutes over medium-low heat.
- Pour in the half & half, then bring the sauce to a simmer for 2 minutes.
- Add the Pecorino Romano cheese and cook until the cheese melts. Season with black pepper. Adjust salt to your liking.
- Return the chicken back to the pan.
- Garnish with fresh parsley.
- Server over mashed potatoes, cacio e pepe, Instant Pot basmati rice or steamed broccoli.

I made this a few times now and it is wonderful. I am using this recipe for my practical exam in culinary class. Fingers crossed my professor enjoys it as much as I do.
But I have a question. Why does your picture show a whole roasted garlic bulb in the middle of the dish when that is not called for at all in the recipe? It's confusing. Am I missing something?

Hi, DeAnna
I am very glad you liked this chicken recipe. I usually use roasted head of garlic to garnish this dish. Another reason I strongly believe that a good photo show tell you the story without even reading the recipe. If someone will look at this image it will be very clear it is Creamy GARLIC chicken.)))Reply

I’m about to make this recipe. What can I substitute Pecorino Romano cheese with? I have cheddar and mozzarella cheese on hand.
Reply
chefjar says
Hey, Carol! Parmesan will work for this recipe. I don't recommend to use cheddar or mozzarella. Pecorino Romano is a much harder cheese than cheddar and mozzarella and has a different flavor profile.
